StudyRoyale in the classroom

A quiz game for the whole class: you open a lobby, and up to 25 pupils join with a code, no accounts needed. A round takes about 4 minutes, and the questions come from 13 subjects or from your own material.

Ready in four steps

  1. 1

    Open a lobby

Open play.studyroyale.app on your computer, ideally on the projector. Play as a guest or with an account, tap “Play” and then “Create lobby”.

  2. 2

    Pick the questions

General knowledge from 13 subjects in three grade bands, or a quiz of your own from your material. You pick the mode at the same time: the arena.

  3. 3

    Show the code

The lobby has a six-character code and a link. Your class opens play.studyroyale.app, taps “Play” and enters the code, or simply opens the link.

  4. 4

    Start

Once everyone is in the waiting room, start the round. If players are missing, you can add bots. Anyone causing trouble can be removed from the lobby.

How your class sees the code

Show the code on the projector or send the link, for example through your learning platform. The link looks like this: play.studyroyale.app/?c=K7QX2M. Whoever opens it lands right in your lobby.

What your class needs

  • One device with a browser per pupil: a laptop, tablet or phone.
  • A player name. No account, no e-mail, no app.
  • Your lobby's code or its link.
  • School Wi-Fi that lets HTTPS and WebSockets through (see below).

The questions

3,039 questions in the grade bands 5–7, 8–10 and 11–13. Every question has four answers and can be answered without any aids.

Rather use your own material? With the AI, a photo, PDF or text becomes a quiz, or you write the questions yourself.

Ideas for your lessons

Revision before a test

A quiz of your own from the last few weeks' material, three rounds, then you go through the hardest questions together.

Cover lessons

No preparation needed: general knowledge at the right grade, with the class playing in changing lobbies.

The last lesson before the holidays

Several rounds across all subjects. Whoever wins stands on the podium.

Starting a new topic

One round on what the class already knows before the topic begins. Afterwards everyone knows where they stand.

Questions from teachers

Do my pupils need an account or an e-mail address?

No. Guests only enter a player name. On first start the game asks for the month and year of birth; under 16 it's guest play only. Only the age group is stored, on the device.

Do I need an account as a teacher?

Not for general knowledge. For quizzes of your own, written by hand or with the AI, you need an account with a confirmed e-mail address.

Do I play along?

Whoever opens the lobby plays along and starts the rounds. Once you're out, you watch until the end. You can also let a pupil open the lobby.

Which devices does the class need?

A current browser with WebGL 2: a laptop, computer, tablet or phone, the iPad included. On first start the game loads about 37 MB; after that it comes from the browser's cache.

What does the school IT need to allow?

The game needs these addresses over HTTPS and encrypted WebSockets (port 443): play.studyroyale.app, studyroyale.app, *.supabase.co, and *.unity.com and *.unity3d.com for sign-in, lobbies and the game connection (Unity Relay).

If a filter blocks the connection, the game gets stuck while joining. A quick test in the staff room before the lesson shows it right away.

What about data protection?

Pupils play as guests without an e-mail address. There are no ads, no analytics companies and no free chat; how much is played, we only count ourselves. Accounts and quizzes are stored with Supabase in the EU; the AI runs on Microsoft Azure in the EU and is not trained with your data.

For use in class, please check with your school whether a data processing agreement is needed; write to us and we'll help.
