Terms of use

Updated: 23.10.2026

Applies to: StudyRoyale in the browser (play.studyroyale.app) and the app for iPhone and iPad (beta via Apple TestFlight)

Translation: This English text is provided for your convenience. Only the German version is legally binding: https://studyroyale.app/nutzungsbedingungen

In short

  • StudyRoyale is free. It is still a beta — so now and then something may not work.
  • The first time you start, we ask when you were born. Tell the truth. Under 16, you play as a guest with a player name; from 16, you can create an account.
  • Play fair: no cheating, no programs that play for you, no mean names.
  • No data about others: no real names, photos or grades of other people in names or quizzes.
  • Your quizzes belong to you. We may store them and show them to the players in your lobbies.
  • The AI can be wrong. Check AI questions and report wrong ones.
  • Coins, Sparks and items exist only in the game. They are not real money.
  • We count how StudyRoyale is used — on our own server, without ads and without third parties. You can switch this off in the settings.
  • Anyone who breaks the rules can be warned or suspended. You can challenge that.
  • If something is weighing on you: Report it in the game, talk to an adult you trust, or call the Nummer gegen Kummer helpline: 116 111 (free and anonymous).

§ 1 Scope and provider

  1. These terms apply to StudyRoyale in the browser (the website studyroyale.app and the game page play.studyroyale.app) and to the app for iPhone and iPad. For the app, Apple’s rules for the App Store or TestFlight also apply.
  2. The provider is: Mika Belz, StudyRoyale, Blumenstraße 6, 63743 Aschaffenburg, Germany, e-mail: studyroyale@yahoo.com (see the imprint).
  3. “We” and “us” mean the provider. “You” means you as a player.

§ 2 What StudyRoyale is

  1. StudyRoyale is a free quiz game. In lobbies, up to 25 players play against each other. Whoever meets another player faces them in a quiz duel. The questions come from our general-knowledge pool or from your own quizzes. Free places are filled by computer-controlled players (bots).
  2. StudyRoyale is a beta. We keep developing the game. In doing so, we can change, add, pause or remove game modes, features and game values.
  3. We do our best to make StudyRoyale run well. But you are not entitled to it always being available — for example because of maintenance, or disruptions at our service providers or on the internet. A round runs on the host’s device: if the host closes the game or loses the connection, the round ends for everyone.
  4. You cannot buy anything at the moment. If there are paid offers later (for example the StudyRoyale Pass), separate terms apply to them. We will show them to you before you buy.
  5. The game — program code, graphics, characters, sounds and the general-knowledge questions — belongs to us or to our licensors. You may use StudyRoyale to play. You may not copy, change, sell or embed the game or parts of it on other sites, unless the law expressly allows it.
  6. You may take and share screenshots and videos of the game. Do not show names or data of other players who do not want that.

§ 3 How the contract is formed

  1. The contract of use is formed when you answer the age question and start playing as a guest or create an account. In doing so, you agree to these terms.
  2. Before you submit anything (for example your player name or your e-mail address), you can correct your entries at any time.
  3. The contract language is German. The game is also available in English.
  4. You can find these terms at any time at studyroyale.app/nutzungsbedingungen and in the game under Settings. You can save or print them there. We do not store a separate copy of the contract text for you.

§ 4 Age, guest and account

  1. The age question: The first time you start, we ask everyone: “When were you born?” Give the month and year honestly. The game remembers only whether you are under 16 or at least 16. It asks only once on each device or in each browser.
  2. Under 16, you play as a guest with a player name. You can open lobbies, join with a code or link, play quiz duels, play against bots and collect rewards in the game. An account with an e-mail address, your own quizzes, AI quizzes, friends and the waiting list for the Pass are not available under 16.
  3. From 16, you can also create an account — with an e-mail address, with Google or with Apple. AI quizzes are only available with a confirmed e-mail address.
  4. Parents: If you are not yet 18, please talk to your parents before you use StudyRoyale, and read these terms with them. Parents can contact us at any time, for example to have their child’s data deleted.
  5. One account per person. Your account belongs to you alone. Do not pass it on, do not sell it and do not tell anyone your password. For an account, give your own e-mail address. If someone misuses your account, write to us straight away.
  6. Guest accounts are tied to your browser or your device. Your game progress as a guest stays only there. If you delete the website data or the app, or sign out, the guest account is gone. We cannot restore it.

§ 5 StudyRoyale at school

  1. Teachers can use StudyRoyale in lessons: they open a lobby with a code, and the pupils join as guests with the code or the invite link.
  2. Whoever opens a lobby is the host. The round runs on their device. The game has to stay open and in the foreground there, otherwise the round ends for everyone. The host starts the round and can remove players from their lobby.
  3. Teachers are asked to make sure that pupils use only first names or nicknames, to check their own quizzes and AI quizzes before playing, and to follow their school’s requirements.

§ 6 Rules of behaviour

Everyone should have fun and feel safe at StudyRoyale. That is why the following applies:

  1. Play fair. No cheating. Not allowed are programs, scripts or bots that play for you or give you advantages, modified versions of the game (including in the browser) and the exploitation of bugs. If you find a bug, let us know.
  2. Be respectful. No insults, threats, bullying or harassment. This also applies to all names (player name, lobby name, quiz name): no swear words, no sexual terms, no references to drugs or violence, no extremist symbols or codes.
  3. No data about others. No full names, addresses, phone numbers, photos, grades or other personal information about other people in names or quizzes — not even as a joke.
  4. No prohibited or hurtful content. Nothing that breaks the law (for example incitement to hatred, banned symbols, depictions of violence, pornography). Nothing that belittles others because of their origin, religion, gender, a disability or their sexual orientation. Nothing that endangers children and young people.
  5. No spam. No advertising, links or chain letters in names and quizzes. No mass invitations or friend requests. No deliberately false reports.
  6. Do not pretend to be someone else — for example a teacher, another pupil, a well-known person or someone from StudyRoyale.
  7. Do not disrupt and do not attack. No attacks on our servers or those of our service providers (for example overloading or hacking attempts), no attempts to get hold of other people’s data. Do not deliberately disrupt other people’s lobbies, for example the lobby of another class.
  8. Respect other people’s rights. Only upload content that you are allowed to use for this (§ 7).

§ 7 Your own content

  1. From 16, you can create your own quizzes with an account — yourself or with the AI (§ 8). Your player name and the names of your lobbies are also your content.
  2. Your rights stay with you. For the game to work, you give us a simple (non-exclusive) right, free of charge, to store your content, to process it technically (for example to check it with the word filter) and to show it to the players in the lobbies in which you use it. The right applies worldwide and ends when you delete the content or your account — except for what we are reviewing because of a report or have to keep as evidence (privacy policy, section 7). We do not use your quizzes for advertising and do not pass them on to others.
  3. You are responsible for your content. Only upload material that you are allowed to use for your studying, for example your own notes. No photos of other people, no documents with other people’s data. Do not copy out other people’s collections of questions (for example from books or other apps).
  4. The number of your own quizzes that you can save may be limited. The game shows you the limit.
  5. We may remove or change content that breaks these terms or the law (§ 10).

§ 8 AI quizzes

  1. From 16, you can use an account with a confirmed e-mail address to have the AI create quiz questions from photos, files or text. Your content goes to Microsoft in the EU for this (privacy policy, section 3.5). Before the first time, the game asks for your agreement.
  2. The AI can be wrong. Questions can be wrong, imprecise or misleading. Check the questions before you play with others. You can deselect or change individual questions.
  3. You can report a wrong question at any time (flag icon, for example in the review of a duel).
  4. The AI costs Sparks (§ 9). The game shows you how many before you start. There are also limits, for example on the number of requests per hour and per day. You are not entitled to a particular result or to the AI always being available.
  5. Do not use the AI for content that breaks § 6. A filter from Microsoft can reject requests with harmful content.

§ 9 Coins, Sparks and items

  1. Coins (for items in the locker), Sparks (for the AI), items, emotes, experience points and levels are virtual content. They have no monetary value. You cannot exchange them for real money or goods, sell them or pass them on to others.
  2. You get them in the game, for example for rounds with general-knowledge questions, in the reward calendar or for daily challenges. Rounds with your own quizzes earn no reward. Sparks are only available with an account with a confirmed e-mail address: currently 250 to start with and 50 on every day on which you collect your reward in the calendar. The calendar tops up your balance to a maximum of 500.
  3. Items only change the look of your character. They give no advantages in the game.
  4. We can change prices, rewards and game values and adjust or introduce items so that the game stays fair and exciting. What you obtained through a bug in the game or by breaking a rule, we may remove again.
  5. If you delete your account or lose a guest account, your virtual content is gone too. If StudyRoyale ends, the use of this content ends as well (§ 15).
  6. You cannot buy anything at the moment. A later StudyRoyale Pass will have its own terms, which we will show you before you buy.

§ 10 Moderation and measures

  1. Word filter: An automatic filter checks player names, lobby names, quiz names, quiz content and requests to the AI for prohibited words. What it rejects is not stored; a rejected name is replaced with a neutral name in a round. The filter can be wrong. If it has rejected something wrongly, write to us.
  2. Reports are reviewed by a human (the provider). We also act if we learn of a violation in some other way.
  3. Possible measures. Depending on how serious a violation is, whether it was intentional and whether it is repeated, we can:
    • remind you of the rules or warn you,
    • replace a name with a neutral name or delete content (for example a quiz),
    • block individual features for a period of time (for example the AI, friends or opening lobbies),
    • temporarily suspend your account,
    • permanently ban or delete your account — in the case of serious or repeated violations.

We decide carefully, objectively and proportionately, and we take the rights of everyone involved into account, including their age. We remove unlawful content. If there are signs of a danger to someone’s life or safety, we inform the authorities (Art. 18 of the Digital Services Act, DSA).

  4. The host of a lobby can remove players from their lobby. This is not a measure taken by us.
  5. Statement of reasons: If we remove content or restrict your account, we tell you what we did and why: which rule is affected, whether an automated tool was involved, and how you can challenge it (Art. 17 DSA). We do this as far as we can reach you — by e-mail to your account’s address or in the game. We have no e-mail address for guests.
  6. Complaint: If you do not agree with a decision, write to us within six months at studyroyale@yahoo.com (subject “Complaint”). We will review the decision again — by a human — and tell you the result. This also applies if you reported something and we did nothing. The way to the courts always remains open to you.
  7. If someone frequently sends reports that are obviously unfounded, we may, after a warning, stop processing that person’s reports for a period of time.

§ 11 Reporting, contact and help

  1. Report in the game: Tap the flag icon next to a player (for example in the friends list or in the results at the end of a round) or next to a question (for example in the review of a duel). Choose a reason and, if you like, briefly write what happened.
  2. Report by e-mail — including content that you consider unlawful (Art. 16 DSA): studyroyale@yahoo.com. So that we can review it, please write:
    • where you saw it (for example lobby name or code, time, player name, quiz or question),
    • why you consider it unlawful or against the rules,
    • your name and your e-mail address (this is not necessary for depictions of child sexual abuse),
    • that your statements are correct to the best of your knowledge.

You do not have to know everything — just write what you know. We confirm receipt and tell you how we decided, if you give us your contact details.

  3. Point of contact under the Digital Services Act (Art. 11 and 12 DSA) for players, authorities, the European Commission and the European Board for Digital Services: studyroyale@yahoo.com. Languages: German and English.
  4. Help: If something in the game or on the internet is weighing on you, frightens you, or someone is harassing you, talk to someone you trust — for example your parents or a teacher. Free and anonymous counselling for children and young people:
    • Germany: Nummer gegen Kummer, 116 111
    • Austria: Rat auf Draht, 147
    • Switzerland: Pro Juventute, 147

You can also report unlawful content or content that is harmful to young people on the internet to jugendschutz.net (https://www.jugendschutz.net). In an emergency: emergency number 112 (throughout Europe), police 110 (Germany), 133 (Austria), 117 (Switzerland).

§ 12 Data protection and usage statistics

  1. How we handle your data is set out in the privacy policy: https://studyroyale.app/datenschutz and in the game under Settings ▸ Privacy policy.
  2. Usage statistics: To improve StudyRoyale, we count on our own server how the game is used — for example how many players play per day, which game modes are played and how rounds end. Before you sign in we count without any identifier, after that with your internal user ID, never with your name, your e-mail address or the content of your quizzes. We evaluate this only in summarised form, show no ads with it and pass it on to no one. You can switch the usage statistics off at any time under Settings ▸ Usage statistics; everything else is in the privacy policy (section 3.15).

§ 13 Liability

  1. StudyRoyale is free of charge. We are liable without limitation in cases of intent and gross negligence, for injury to life, body or health, under the Product Liability Act (Produkthaftungsgesetz), and to the extent that we have assumed a guarantee or fraudulently concealed a defect.
  2. Otherwise, we are not liable.
  3. We do not guarantee the accuracy of other players’ content (for example quizzes and names) or of the AI’s questions. We remove unlawful content as soon as we become aware of it.
  4. StudyRoyale does not store uploaded photos and files. So keep your study materials yourself.
  5. These rules also apply to the people and service providers who work for us.

§ 14 Changes to these terms

  1. We can change these terms if there is a good reason for it — for example new features, new laws or court rulings, or the security of the game.
  2. Significant changes will be announced to you in the game at least four weeks in advance (with an account, also by e-mail). They only apply once you agree to them, for example with “Agree” in the game. If you do not agree, the previous terms apply until the end of the contract; we may then terminate the contract with four weeks’ notice (§ 15).
  3. Changes that only benefit you or are purely linguistic or technical apply from the moment they are published.

§ 15 Termination and deleting your account

  1. You can stop at any time. To end the contract, delete your account in the game: Settings ▸ Delete account — this also works as a guest.
  2. We can terminate the contract with four weeks’ notice. We will tell you in the game or by e-mail.
  3. For good cause, we can terminate the contract immediately and suspend or delete your account, especially in the case of serious or repeated violations of § 6 (see § 10).
  4. If we shut StudyRoyale down completely, we will announce this at least four weeks in advance. We will then delete your data in accordance with the privacy policy.
  5. When the contract ends, your virtual content ends as well (§ 9).

§ 16 Final provisions

  1. German law applies. If you are a consumer, you keep the protection of the mandatory consumer protection provisions of the country in which you live (Art. 6(2) Rome I Regulation).
  2. We are neither obliged nor willing to take part in dispute resolution proceedings before a consumer arbitration board. The former EU platform for online dispute resolution has not existed since 20.07.2025.
  3. If a provision of these terms is invalid, the others remain valid. The statutory rule takes the place of the invalid one (§ 306 BGB, the German Civil Code).
